Creating Audio Navigation (AN) requires a high-level DVD authoring system and a skilled author. However, there are alternatives that are easier to implement, but are not as desirable in actual use.
Audio Navigation (AN)
As created by the National Center for Accessible Media. Consists of two menu systems; one without AN, one with AN. User toggles by pressing the "1" button on the remote control. With AN activated, every menu option is spoken as it is highlighted. This is easiest system to use, but the most difficult and time-consuming to create.
Audio-Assisted Navigation (AAN)
As created by DeKalb Video Productions. Combines standard DVD navigation and audio navigation into a single menu. Pressing the UP and DOWN keys navigates normally. Pressing the LEFT key announces the name of the current menu and the list of options in that menu. Pressing the RIGHT key announces the currently highlighted option. Menus are limited to vertical only. Relatively easy to use, but still difficult and time consuming to create.
Audio Menus (AM)
As created by DeKalb Video Productions. Each menu announces which numbered button to push to access each option on that menu. Very easy to create, but potential for error by the user is high.
